Read more Recent detections of gravitational waves (‘ripples in spacetime’) have produced startling revelations about the nature of the high energy Universe. Since the first direct detection of gravitational waves in 2015 emitted by the collision and merger of two black holes located more than one billion light years away, we are beginning to answer fundamental and long standing questions about black holes, neutron stars, gravity, and even the origins of the heaviest elements found in nature.
